The tienanmen square incident is another place where anti-communists get right and wrong completely confused. Thousands of students and others gathered in the heart of Beijing to challenge the Chinese government in the late 80s. The leaders of that time Teng and Li Peng called out the army, and hundreds of people were massacred. But the part people aren't told: the maoists were standing with the people in the streets. And the anti-maoists were the ones who called out the army. and the U.S. government (of George Bush senior) was supporting the government that carried out the massacre. rwor.org/a/china/tienamen.htmhen the workers came from the city's factories to join the students in this rebellion, they cam carrying posters of Mao and their redbooks -- in challenge to the revisionist rulers who had rejected and mocked Maoism. Here is a picture of the rebels INSIDE the tienanmen square crowd proclaiming their Maoist politics: rwor.org/i/china/tian5.htm

Excellent point. I think it was interesting how the U.S. supported Deng's regime before the massacre took place, and then condemned Deng's regime afterwards. It is a shame that Western news media portrayed the massacre as the result of a rebellion against communism. Nevertheless, socialism in China died in 1976, when Deng led his coup against communist revolutionaries. Since then, China's usurpers have slowly restored capitalism and have imposed revisionism (a digressive form of Marxism). China is currently ruled by capitalist reactionaries who have opened the country to Western interests, thus further exploiting millions of workers in sweatshops. I believe that the GPCR (Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution) in China died with Mao, as Deng took his death as an opportunity for his coup. As the RWOR article Tiananmen: It's Right to Rebel eloquently put it, "The Cultural Revolution did not 'fail' or 'collapse.' It was defeated by the class that rules China today--those who carried out the massacre in Beijing in June 1989." I think it is important, as Mao suggested, that revolutionary struggle must continue even after a cultural revolution. Be wary of those who wish for prosperity.
"If the leadership in China is usurped by the revisionists in the future, the Marxist-Leninists of all countries should relentlessly expose them and fight against them and help the Chinese masses in their battle against the revisionists."
--Mao Tse-Tung
