There is alot of movement in liberal circles right now. Alot of dissatisfaction and rage both with Democrats and with Bush.
It really seems like people on that side of things are ready, willing, and able to struggle on a whole new level in comparison to the anti-war and anti-bush marches.
I guess without getting too into it, there are so many things floating around and so much "chatter" that things really look like a powder keg. The Downing Street Memo is a BIG DEAL to these people. If something doesn't happen with it they're going to be beyond pissed. The Democrats seem to be slowly throwing meat to this, but they seem to be trying to control it and there is division in their ranks as to how to approach it. The difference between Conyers and Kerry's approach. At the same time Dean is alternately stirring things up and trying to cool them down. Then there is the larger society wide dissatisfaction with Bush's policies, which is going to embolden dissent and possibly magnify it.
I get a really wierd feeling, especially at a place online like DU (democraticunderground.com). Things are at a level there which is completely different in terms of the radicalness of it. Not to say they're all radical, but they seem to be impatient to get Bush out of power and are now considering going beyond the democratic party channels to pressure for impeachment (which they would have a hard time winning anyway given the set-up in the House and Senate). But this stuff is coming out more generally into the superstructure. There seems to be something of a buliding movement around this Downing Memo at the same time as there is alot of dissatisfaction with things. There are alot of stories coming through the main stream media, and even on the far right their is alot of dissatisfaction with Bush. I would just point to arch reactionary Michael Savage as one example. He has been getting more and more critical of Bush.
You can see just the response to the call to kick Bush out of office here: www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=1856036&mesg_id=1863396
But if you peruse their forums for a small amount of time you'll see that this sentiment is everywhere.
I don't know... maybe it will turn out to be nothing, but I hope not.
